You’re likely already familiar with Videoart at Midnight (VAM), a monthly screening of films aimed at taking time-based art out of galleries and onto the big screen. To celebrate their 100th screening and 10 year anniversary, VAM is planning their Festival ’18. The two day celebration (15-16.12.2018) features 100 artists and 100 films divided into 13 screenings, each featuring multiple short films in succession. Taking place at the historic Babylon cinema in Mitte, the festival showcases the work of past contributors from around the world such as Wolfgang Tillmans and Shingo Yoshida. Preceding the festival will be a symposium discussing the past, present and future of video art as well as a retrospective of British video artist Ed Atkin’s work. If you can’t make it to the weekend’s screenings, check out the exhibitions at one of four participating galleries. From the brash to the ethereal, the archival to the premiere, this festival is sure to challenge your perceptions of film’s role in contemporary art.
