HALF RETREAT, HALF RAVE — MINDFULNESS AND ECSTASY AT SACRED GROUND FESTIVAL

HALF RETREAT, HALF RAVE — MINDFULNESS AND ECSTASY AT SACRED GROUND FESTIVAL

If you love the close-to-nature feel of festivals but are less keen on the sleepless nights, next weekend’s Sacred Ground (11–14.08.2022) could be the one for you. Launched in 2015 by Australian singer RY X and Frank Wiedemann (who make up the duo Howling), the festival offers a mindful alternative to the big weekenders around Berlin. The aim was to do something sustainable: “We wanted to create an immersive retreat that would allow our community to dive into a world of magic, unwind from everyday life and create a place of sanctuary.” To this end, the festival supports small regional businesses and suppliers and avoids using plastic. The weekend is all about celebrating the sensual things in life: art, mindfulness, body-soul wellness and good food.

Musically, the program ranges from electronic music to indie and folk. Wiedemann (aka Âme)and RY X are playing the festival themselves, as are artists from Leipzig’s Institut für Zukunft like JakoJako, Neele, Perm and Peter Invasion. Other highlights include Peruvian singer and producer Sofia Kourtesis, Bulgarian producer Kink and Sebastian Mullaert. Held two hours from Berlin at Klingmühle in Brandenburg, Sacred Ground also includes an extensive mindfulness programme: breathwork sessions, yoga, meditation, creative workshops and tea ceremonies bring moments of peace and quiet as you move between the stages and the onsite lake.
