SOLIDARITY FOR THE SOUL — THREE ARTS EVENTS FOR THE WEEKEND

SOLIDARITY FOR THE SOUL — THREE ARTS EVENTS FOR THE WEEKEND

Another summer weekend is sneaking up on us, and if you’re in the mood to do it all you’ll have to decide between art, culture, music, food and drinks. Tomorrow, for example, you could go to Hakenfelde in Spandau, where CCCCCOMA (The five C’s stand for Curatorial Collective Connecting Concepts of Communication and Art, by the way) opens its new group exhibition “Seh die Welt in Trümmern liegen” (See the World in Ruins) at the Backsteinboot. The space is a remnant of Spandau’s 19th century armaments industry and is located on Eiswerder Island, in the middle of Lake Spandau – fitting for an exhibition that is a demonstration of solidarity with Ukraine. There will be a performance at 20h, with a live DJ set at 22h (you’re welcome to stay late given the possibly long journey home).

If you’ve found your way back by Sunday you can continue to show solidarity in unfamiliar places: The Berlin street paper Arts of the Working Class is organizing an “Arts, food and crafts market for nourishment” under the banner “Souls for Music” in the Atelier Gardens on the former BUFA grounds in Tempelhof. The event celebrates the magazine’s new edition and features books, fermented food by Mimi Ferments and a pop up restaurant (Hot Spell) by Caique Tizzi from 5pm (be sure to reserve). If that is too far to the south-west, you can check out the current exhibition at Spoiler, running all weekend. Titled “Strange Homes”, it’s about how living is a complex process and shows seven works, with a reading by Sophie Heck at the opening on Friday evening followed by a DJ. On Sunday there’s a barbecue with Johanna Ballweg and a performance by Dennis Fuchs. Sounds great, right? All you need to do is decide which place to go to.
