ANASTAZJA MOSER RECOMMENDS: RESTAURANT MASANIELLO

Masaniello is a Neapolitan restaurant on Hasenheide, located on the ground floor of the impressive block of houses overlooking the park. This family run restaurant has been operating since 1979 and serves pizza, pasta, fresh fish on the weekends and weekly specials written in Italian on a chalk board. The thin, crispy pizzas come out of a wooden oven and have the much sought after certificate of traditional specialty. No mascarpone on a pizza; mascarpone is for deserts! The very friendly and professional staff is likely to react with distaste for any requests from a customer used to German versions of an Italian kitchen. The best bet for pizza is the “Verace Rossa” with Mozzarella di Buffala, olive oil, cherry tomato sauce and fresh basil. An Aperol Spritz followed by a huge plate of fried prawns served with lemon on a summer evening in Masaniello’s big beautiful garden always helps to cure my longing for a holiday. And then, there is the the glass display case full of delicious homemade deserts. (Photos: Benjamin Lindenkreuz)
