Of course I never believed that Billy Idol’s “White Wedding” was dedicated to Berlin’s district. Although lately it keeps popping up as a joke; “Mitte/Pberg/Kberg is really getting on my nerves so I recently moved to Wedding. You know, Billy Idol once wrote a song about it…” Right. My point is, Wedding is the better choice to Neukölln – with or without Billy – and the first pioneers in resettling there are doing a fantastic job at it. There’s “Da Baffi” at Leopoldplatz for example. For months and months the three owners put all their time and amore into turning a former hair salon into a cozy Italian restaurant that serves everything from pasta, fish and meat dishes to antipasti and dolci, every Tuesday thru Saturday. Thanks to the owners’ family connections to Italy, you’ll find fresh truffles and selected but affordable wines imported directly from the vignerons. Almost everything served there is homemade: the bread, the pulpo carpaccio, the taglioni or the panna brunlée (a family recipe). Their small but comprehensive “della cena” (evening menu) closes with “Bon Appetito!” and that’s what you’ll experience there for sure.
Tue-Sat, 18.30-22.30h, prices 6-16€, Da Baffi, Nazarethkirchstraße 41, 13347 Berlin-Wedding; reservations: +49.175.6926545; map

What a perfect combination: an ice cream parlor on the ground floor and a disco in the basement – treat yourself to a big scoop of ice cream at “Giovanni’s” and then dance the night away at “What?!” or cool down after hours with a frozen dessert in the sun… “Giovanni” is already open and “What?!” is celebrating its grand opening on Saturday. Both places are the brainchildren of “Remmidemmi” & “Mit Vergnügen” crew, Pierre Türkowsky und Matze Hielscher.
Giovanni, daily from 12-20h (depending on the wheather); What?! Opening Party: Sat 14.5 from 00h, Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 11, 10178 Berlin-Mitte, map
