THE BIG SCREEN UNDER THE STARS — WHAT TO SEE AT THE OPEN AIR CINEMAS IN AUGUST

As we reach what is officially called late summer, there’s no better time to watch movies under the stars. We’ve dug through the open air cinema schedules and found six must-sees, starting tomorrow evening (11.08 21h) at Freiluftkino Hasenheide which will be showing Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City. In this laconic comedy, star-struck visitors go to a junior Stargazer convention and are suddenly cut off from the outside world due to an extraordinary event in the American desert town. On Sunday (13.08 21h), take a trip back to your school days with Das Lehrerzimmer at Pompeji in Friedrichshain. The film is set to win several German film awards for its outstanding portrayal of the German school system and the powerful performances of the cast. Next Thursday (17.08. 20h45) the Mobile Kino in Charlottenburg will take you to a completely different world with The Banshees of Inisherin, a film about the abrupt end of a lifelong friendship between two Irish men.

The film Everything Everywhere All At Once at the Kino am Kaisersteg (24.08. 20h45) is not only captivating because of its profound characters, but also because of its multidimensional world structures and its genre-crossing storytelling. You should definitely see this Oscar-winning masterpiece on the big screen. Next up: if you haven’t seen it, what are you waiting for? The Barbie movie will be playing at the Freiluftkino Friedrichshain on 24.08.(20h15) – complete with bright pink outfits and entertaining punchlines. Or how about Oppenheimer, this summer’s other hit? The story about the construction of the atomic bomb and its inventor J. Robert Oppenheimer will be screened at the Freiluftkino Rehberge(30.08, 20h15). Time to pack your blanket, grab a deckchair and get ready for a night of entertainment in the great outdoors.
