AUNT BENNY BAR — DRINKS ON TRAVEPLATZ AS THE SUN SETS

AUNT BENNY BAR — DRINKS ON TRAVEPLATZ AS THE SUN SETS

From the beginning, owners Jeremy, Kyla and Alexander wanted Aunt Benny to be a place for locals and non-locals alike. The concept was simple; great coffee, a beautiful interior and an all-inclusive atmosphere. However, seemingly simple concepts are not always so easy to pull off. For Aunt Benny, in their eighth year of business, it’s fair to say they have excelled in this. Now, they want to apply the same concept to their small but perfectly formed bar. The second room was first opened as a dedicated cocktail bar, but after a small overhaul has now become a more friendly neighborhood location. It’s a place where time slows, where drinks are made with care, and where faces take on a soft glow from the hanging bulbs or the last rays of evening sunshine. Order a carefully-crafted cocktail, a simple bottle of wine or a pitcher of local Berliner Berg beer, pair it with a big bowl of nachos or the 13 hour slow-cooked pulled pork sandwich and you’ll have a pretty good night with friends or a partner in the making. There won’t be a better place in Friedrichshain to sit out until the sun goes down this summer. (Text: Chloe Galea / Photo: Daniel Farò)
