CALLING ALL HISPANOPHILES: BARTLEBY & CO. BOOK STORE

Slightly hidden in a subterranean space near the Moviemento Kino, this tiny book store may be easy to miss but hard to ignore – especially for Hispanophiles. Run by Ana S. Pareja, a publisher of a Spanish independent publishing house called Alpha Decay, and Adrián de Alfonso, a musician behind the project Don the TigerBartleby & Co. focuses on contemporary titles in Spanish as well as a selection of German books. For an annual membership fee of 20 Euros you may use the library in the back to borrow up to three books for 15 days. Drop by on Fridays for readings or screenings of Hispanic films (with English subtitles), or browse the shelves while sipping a glass of Spanish Vermouth on Saturdays. Coming up tomorrow: Craig Schuftan, an Australian author and radio producer, will be speaking about Manchester, music, drugs and pop culture at the end of the 20th century. This event will be the first episode of the monthly series called “Love in the Nineties”. (Text: Nina Trippel; photos: Xavi Galindo)
