C.ADOLPH — SCREWS AND DRILLS FROM THE BELLE EPOQUE

C.ADOLPH — SCREWS AND DRILLS FROM THE BELLE EPOQUE

When searching for special nuts and bolts, it will almost always lead you to C. Adolph. A floor to ceiling wall unit, resembling an old apothecary cupboard, stocks huge assortments of pegs, dowels, locks, tapes and tools, all neatly organized. Aside from the wide variety of hardware and household goods, this store in Savignyplatz offer much more than meets the eye: a long history which started in 1898. The store is still equipped with its original late nineteenth century Gründerzeit period interior, adding a little bit of time-travel adventure to the visitors. C. Adolph is an institution in Berlin and a well-know name for stage technicians throughout Europe — scenery hinges, stage screws, manual chain hoists, wheels and castors — whatever you need, they offer (almost) anything you could possibly think of. So there’s a good chance you’ll find that very screw you’ve been searching for too. (Text: Milena Kalojanov / Photos: Carlito Schilirò)
