What connects a flea market, queer dance training, swing music in a beer garden, and a last round on the beach? The desire to celebrate together — an attitude that combines escapism and solidarity. Here are CC’s Calendar tips for the weekend and beyond. Feel the sand between your toes one more time before August comes to an end. After a successful start last month, Refuge Worldwide invites you to a second open-air event (24.08.2025) on Treptower Straße. This time featuring Adam Cooke, do25inco, Mandel & Jana Falcon, and TRU:L — all residents of Berlin Community Radio. All proceeds, after venue and performance fees, will go directly to maintaining the station. There will be Jamaican cuisine from the grill from 14:00 until sunset, courtesy of Royal Jerk. On Thursday (28.08.), we’ll celebrate summer one last time with plant-based cuisine, poetry, and a long outdoor dining table. Safiya Robinson is cooking for Gather for the first time in Berlin. Her dishes are rooted in Afro-diasporic cooking traditions, inspired by her Black American, Jamaican, and English heritage. For her, it’s not just about taste, but attitude: how, why, and with whom we eat.
The menu is dedicated to Audre Lorde, the author and activist who once lived and worked in Berlin. The dinner will be accompanied by a live soundtrack from the Berlin label PLOT Records, which provides a platform for FLINTA* and BIPOC artists. With the Çaystube (27.–30.08.), the Pop-Kultur Festival creates an open, free space for queer, post-migrant, decolonial togetherness. Bodies as political voices, movement as identity: between dance, music, and discussion formats, a place is created that consciously opposes norms. The kickoff is on Wednesday in the courtyard and is free to attend. For those who prefer dancing to discussing, we recommend the Friendly Flohmarkt x Swing Base. On Sunday (31.08.), Jules B-Part will be transformed into a place of vintage finds, big band sound, and beginner workshops. Three live bands, drop-in courses for all levels, soft drinks, soft ice cream, and second-hand items are included. Admission is free, access is open to all, and a lively atmosphere is guaranteed. The Forward Festival is once again going deep. On 28.–29.08. at HKW, attend talks, performances, and workshops with Natasha Jen (Pentagram), Erik Kessels, Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam, and many more. The motto: “Turn ideas into action”. Whether on the dance floor, over a meal, or in conversation, the coming week will serve as an example of what can happen when people share space with each other. Perhaps this is the most beautiful way to end this Berlin summer.
