The former home of the Tagesspiegel on Potsdamer Straße has attracted many galleries over the past years, seeing international stars like Blain|Southern work side-by-side with young gallerists such as Thomas Fischer. The latter is ringing in Gallery Weekend this evening with a duet of series by Düsseldorf-based photographer Irmel Kamp, who examines the architectural language of 1930s Brussels and Tel Aviv. Across the way at Galerie Judin, Hugo Wilson seeks out the human elements in animals, guided by the findings of Zoologist Alfred Brehm. His studies take the form of digital collages printed on wooden boards — a medium also employed by Romanian artist Julia Nistor, whose series “Pieces of Evidence” is on show at Plan B. Guido Baudach presents Jürgen Klauke, an artist who has been questioning societal definitions of gender identity long before the conversation hit the mainstream. And over in Esther Schipper’s new space, Anri Sala’s latest video installation overlays La Marseillaise with the Socialist International anthem.
