GARCIA — FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD CAFE SERVING HOMEMADE CAKES, SANDWICHES AND MORE

Nothing beats a friendly neighborhood cafe, and we’ve found a place in Moabit that definitely deserves that label. Located on Waldstrasse – one street parallel to Beusselstrasse – Garcia is a haven amongst the industry of the area, with a red awning and sign welcoming locals, businesspeople and families alike. The space was opened in 2015 by couple Konrad and Marila, who were expecting a child at the time. They were looking for local playgrounds when they landed on the idea of opening a cafe – and so another baby (of sorts) joined the family. The space is homely and rustic, with a seating room featuring a communal table with a vase overflowing with flowers and a long bench by the window. The other area has shelves that act as a small shop (which is also online) where the pair sell goods they love: specialty coffee accessories, a Garcia porcelain collection of crockery and vases, wines thanks to Konrad’s sommelier background, and an impressive collection of Tony’s Chocolonely flavors.

Konrad and Marila also sell the coffee beans they serve on rotation, including from Right Side and Flying Roasters. To eat, you can try one of the cafe’s many homemade goods, sweet or savory: croissants, granola, citrus tart, pastel de natas, cinnamon scrolls, sandwiches and a soup of the day. Our tip is to get there early (the cafe opens at 8am) and grab one of the terrace seats – it’s the perfect place to (hopefully) soak up the morning sun.
