GEORG WEBER RECOMMENDS: KANAAN

GEORG WEBER RECOMMENDS: KANAAN

A sign at the entrance promises “the best hummus in town” – and that may just be the case. At Kanaan, it’s difficult to think of anything that needs improving. I ordered the sabich hummus plate, which included cumin-spiced chickpeas, fresh and creamy hummus and a delicious tahini sauce. Another dish that caught my eye consisted of egg, slabs of charred eggplant, mango chutney with a kick, topped off with a spicy pesto. On the menu, traditions come together with a fresh interpretation, reflecting the diverse inspirations of the two owners, who are Palestinian and Israeli respectively. The restaurant looks a little like a garden shed, with modern furniture misplaced in its front yard. In these colder months, you can enjoy the seasonal menu on the extended winter balcony. Keep an eye out for the daily special, plus a lunch deal including a salad and a drink. (Text: Georg Weber / Photos: Milena Zwerenz c/o Mit Vergnügen (L) / Georg Weber (R))
