Amongst the coffee shops, restaurants and parks of Kastanienallee sits Hai, a children’s shop full of beautiful clothes, hand-selected toys, trinkets and home decor pieces for little ones. Yue and Nana opened Hai in the autumn of 2020, driven by their philosophy of “Buy less, buy better”. Their collections are curated with usability, comfort and aesthetic in mind while the store itself is fun and inspiring, with coral-coloured walls and handmade deep blue counters that display items that the duo have hand selected. And what a selection it is: this adorable collection of children’s clothing and trinkets had me grasping at any excuse to buy a present for family and friends.
Whether it’s a little t-shirt, wellies or a bunny rabbit toy, Yue and Nana are there to tell you all about its materials, the company and where it’s from. As a mother of two and an aunty, the founders know exactly what parents, family and friends want and need for the little people in their lives. The majority of the items Hai stocks are from independent, European-based brands such as the little bathrobes from Studio Bumbuli and the adorable hand-knitted toys from Main Sauvage that are designed in France and made from baby alpaca wool in Bolivia. As for clothing, you can find the likes of rainwear by Canadian designer Faire Child that is made of recycled bottles and is 100% waterproof and the storm jacket by Konges Sloejd from Denmark which is windproof and water repellent – perfect for rainy days. Once you have treated your little one at Hai why not head next door for a coffee to-go from Espressomania Coffee Roastery before heading down to Weinberg Park for a leisurely stroll? P.S. Hai’s winter sale is on in store until 10.04 and online until stocks last.
