It is as simple as it is special: Haus Hedwig. Somewhere between Prenzlau and Szczecin, at a small crossroads in the village of Hedwigshof, surrounded by solitary buildings and wide fields, the charming dark wooden house with a pointed roof has been standing since 2022. With Hedwig, Diana has created her own personal hideaway – her version of a dream cottage in the countryside. And she’s kind enough to share it with us – when she’s not there herself. Once you’ve made your way to Hedwigshof (about an hour and a half by car from Berlin-Mitte), you’ll feel like you’ve left the city far behind. And once you’ve entered, peace and quiet sets in. The house, designed by Danish-born Berliner Sigurd Larsen, strikes a balance between minimalist, cool and yet somehow sweet. The ground-floor living space with stone flooring has a striking design with views up to the pointed roof. The dark façade continues on the walls inside, illuminating everything. The green leaves of the banana palm, the woven tapestry, the light wooden kitchen, the bright blue lamp by the armchair. Just as bright as the carefully chosen color accents, the outside also appears through the large windows and offers that expansive view that you often miss in the urban jungle.
And the room layout is as simple as the house itself: the living room with kitchenette is a space for cooking, eating, reading on the large sofa by Flos or looking out from the armchair in front of the “sunset window”. If you want to immerse yourself even more in peace and quiet, take a bath in front of the floor-to-ceiling window – and don’t worry, the nearest neighbor is far away and short-sighted, I’ve been told. But the concept of openness is part of the package: there are no blinds, so you can go with the flow of the day, as every hour casts the house in a different light. Of course, you can also create the cozy light of your choice here with the many small scattered lamps, such as the ones in the bathroom by Louis Poulsen or the hanging lamps by &Tradition. And in the bedroom you have the choice: do you want to watch the sunrise from bed or do you prefer to slumber longer behind the linen curtains? Incidentally, the bed has room for two – so it’s perfect both for some quality me-time and a cozy trip for two. The key is a plan is to gain new perspectives, because not only are the views special, they also offer space for insights into yourself, because as we all know, you need some distance for that.
