ART IN A CUBE: A GUIDED TOUR THROUGH THE COLLECTION BOROS

There are art spaces people talk about often but most have never been to, because there’s always something else more thrilling to attend: an opening reception, performances or some artsy party. But it is actually the private collections that offer some of the most intriguing art experiences in Berlin. Thanks to Michael Sailstorfer, the entire floor surrounding Ai Wei Wei’s 6 meter tall bog tree smells like popcorn. This is no funfair, it is the Collection Boros — a five-storey bunker building bursting with contemporary art collection privately owned by Christian Boros and his wife; they manage to dwarf some museums in size. The bunker was erected as an air raid shelter in 1941, served as a storage facility for bananas in the DDR era and its claim to fame in the 90s was housing the world’s freakiest techno club. Nowadays, this place has certainly become more quiet, though no less exciting. Both English and German guided tours can be booked online and are available between Thursdays and Sundays.
