A year ago Lavanderia Vecchia was somewhat of an insider tip, while booking a table well in advance has since been a must if you wanted to enjoy dinner there. However for lunch you can simply walk in since they don’t take reservations. The restaurant in a former washing saloon serves lunch much like in Italy’s highway bistros: you order by the entrance, pay in advance, and the food is served at the table. There are two prix fixe lunches to choose from and both feature three dishes. We had a clear soup with white asparagus, “Pasta Pomodoro/Rucola” and for dessert the mascarpone-white-chocolate-cream with medlars. Delicious! Added bonuses: the airy dining room, friendly staff and outdoor seatings under a shady tree in the backyard. (Text: Nina Trippel)
