OONA GALLERY CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF JEWELLERY — RECOMMENDED BY MILENA KALOJANOV

If you take a stroll through Auguststraße you can’t miss Oona: the jewellery gallery’s windows are amongst the most beautiful in Berlin. For 20 years now, this “Jewellery Universe” has been home to both timeless and contemporary designs, including rings, necklaces and brooches as well as more unorthodox wearable works from German and international artists. Owner Anna Schetelich is focused not on the beautiful or pretty, but rather creative power and craftsmanship. With the motto “It’s not only gold that shines”, Anna and her artists specialize in unusual materials: borosilicate glass gives Christian Metzner’s surreal bubble necklaces an almost cuddly appearance; Benedikt Fischer’s toothed shell shapes turn found objects into art; and Karin Johansson’s acrylic bracelets remind you of the seaside with every jangle. That’s not to forget the earrings and hoops from Marc Monzó, which are so delicate as to “melt” on the skin. This year marks Oona’s twentieth anniversary – the perfect time to get acquainted with these design wonders. (Text: Milena Kalojanov / Photos: Oona Gallery & 한동령 DR Han)
