There’s a new concept store in town and here are two very good reasons to go: fine fashion and food. On the ground floor, Oukan71 offers fashion for the upcoming winter season for all gentlemen who perfer understatement with an edgy twist – such as jackets by Norwegian Rain, rain boots by Hunter, practical bags by Freitag’s Reference Line or leather jackets by a Japanese brand Mabuya Mabuya. Japan is the key word at Oukan71, a project lead by Natalie Viaux und Huy Thong Tran Mai who initiated a charity project for a team of Japanese designers “Tokyo Gakudan” during the past fashion week; the store is an offspring to this project. On the second floor the duo offers a selection of womenswear, such as Ayzit Bostan and Antonia Goy, completed with music, fine Belgian-Japanese chocolates, and magazines. Their little café too is all about Japanese delicacies – you’ll find maccha in all kinds of variations: as thin chocolate or in small cakes made by the chef patissier Eriko Ohsawa (former patissier at Tim Raue’s “Ma”). You may also want to drop by for lunch to enjoy their bento boxes. The store is a nice addition to the shopping district of Friedrichstrasse and a long-awaited addition to the cosmopolitan concept stores in Berlin.
