TWO-WHEELED ESCAPES — RADRING DISCOVERY DAY WITH BIKE TOURS PAST LAKES AND PALACES

Summer weekends: the perfect time for a two-wheeled adventure courtesy of Radring, the huge orbital cycle path encircling Berlin. This Saturday (21.05.2022), the folks behind the initiative are hosting a discovery day that offers you the chance to jump on your bike and discover the rural wonders surrounding the city. Participation is free and open to all – you just need a roadworthy bike. Run by ADFC (Allgemeine Deutsche Fahrrad-Club) in cooperation with regional parks and authorities, the day offers five different guided tours that take you past castles and lakes, through forests and across beautiful Brandenburg landscapes. The tours last between two and four hours, meaning they’re manageable for families and amateur cyclists. You can also set off for an unguided tour along part of the 330km-long Radring, which offers a number of different stages ranging from 20 to 45km. Route 11, for instance, runs from Oranienburg to Bernau, taking you along the Lehnitzsee lake and the Oder-Havel canal, through flowering fields and past Brandenburg villages. Top tip: be sure to take a swimsuit with you so you can stop at one of the many lakes for a refreshing dip.
