If you have plans on riding the U8 any time soon, you might want to make a pit stop at the Schönleinstrasse station to try the popular Japanese snack “onigiri”. Tarev Karpert and Thorsten Reuter have been brewing the idea of selling these triangular shaped rice balls wrapped in nori with different fillings inside for nearly ten years; a year ago they finally started to take charge. Now their production in Treptow is up and running and onigiris are being sold at their little kiosk on, of all places, the subway platform in Kreuzberg. You’ll find fine choices such as “salmon/wasabi” as well as self-creations such as “salmon/spicy plum” or “chicken with ginger”. The onigiris are made with mainly regional ingredients without the use of artificial flavors. If you are fed up with Brötchens and sandwiches, for 2,50€ onigiris are the healthier alternative.
