SAFELIGHT: DROP-AND-GO FILM DEVELOPING FOR THE ANALOG PHOTOGRAPHER

SAFELIGHT: DROP-AND-GO FILM DEVELOPING FOR THE ANALOG PHOTOGRAPHER

What started as a photography hobby for Chris Morgan and Alessandro Iotti led them to start buying and selling cameras before they opened Safelight, a professional camera shop and film lab for all things analog in Wedding. Since opening in April 2019, the pair have added in-house film developing and processing to their services, road-tripping to Dortmund to pick up the machines. With the volumes of film they develop now, they’ve had to move the lab to a larger off-site location (their new lab is in a bakery basement). The store is compact and packed, selling a range of 35mm and medium format film cameras (Canon, Nikon, Minolta and more), films (Fujifilm, Kodak, Ilford and more), accessories, and even chemicals for at-home developing. Their online shop lets you stock up on supplies and develop your film contact-free by simply sending your rolls by post or slipping them into the drop box in front of their store. In a few days the scanned photos will land in your inbox, taking all the fuss out of film. (Text: Scarlett Peeters / Photos: Savannah van der Niet & Safelight Berlin)
