FIND SOMETHING NICE AND DO SOMETHING GOOD: VOO STORE X OPERNDORF AFRIKA CHARITY MARKET

In the middle of Kreuzberg, in the backyard of Oranienstraße, you will find the concept store Voo, which has been open for 13 years now, and right next to (or rather in front of) the fashion hotspot, VooSpace recently opened its doors as an exhibition and event space. On 24. and 25.11.2023, the second edition of the Charity Market for the benefit of Opendorf Africa will take place: From donated new goods from more than 40 labels, ready-to-wear pieces from 032cClosedKasia Kucharska and Paloma Wool, among others, to sneakers and accessories, interior pieces, beauty products from Aesop and L:a Bruket as well as overnight stays at Raus or The Hoxton – at up to 30 percent off. The goal is clearly defined: to raise a large sum of money for Operndorf! All proceeds will go directly to the organization’s projects in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Founded by artist Christoph Schlingensief in 2009, Operndorf in Burkina Faso is a local charity that is now largely managed by his wife, Aino Laberenz. True to its guiding principle of “Learning from Africa”, the art and education project offers a platform for cultural exchange and post-colonial discourse in order to present a differentiated image of Africa.

To date, an elementary school, an infirmary and residences for international artists have been created in the space provided by the Burkinabe government, around 30 kilometers from Burkina Faso’s capital Ouagadougou. Nigerian-Italian artist Diana Ejata is also exploring her own African heritage and the revival of African aesthetics as part of the “Art in Residence” program at Operndorf, donating 100 limited edition prints for you to get your hands on. All accompanied by MoschxAries’ pop-up bar and DJ sets from Alex Huber and Alyssa & Gia. So it doesn’t matter whether you end up going home with or without a bargain Highsnobiety sweater or whether you simply make a donation: Stopping by means showing support.
