THE CURATOR’S SUITCASE — ART MEETS ACTIVISM WITH LECTURES, WORKSHOPS AND PERFORMANCES AT THE MAXIM GORKI THEATER

Who writes history? Will technology change things for the better? And are we humans really at the center of the world? These hard-hitting questions and many more are up for discussion at The Curator’s Suitcase, a three-week program of talks and performances held at the Maxim Gorki Theater as part of the Young Curators Academy project. The line-up reveals how “curators” (meaning any kind of artist, creative, academic or historian) can bridge art and activism to recast the world. Highlights include researcher Aouefa Amoussouvi’s multi-sensory “lecture ritual“, which looks at everything from cacao to chemistry to expose who really benefits from science (this Saturday, 09.04.2022). On 16.04, dancer Nirlyn Seijas will present a performance-lecture on the importance of gathering and collaboration among women. Meanwhile, writer Giuliana Kiersz’s “writing gathering” (23 & 24.04) is your chance to put pen to paper and create written work that shifts the boundaries of the possible (no experience required). Finally, on 23.04, artist Nile Koetting will perform “Evacuation Picnic +“, a piece inspired by the disaster preparation exercises which children commonly do in Koetting’s native Japan. You can explore the full program – which includes live action role play – on the Gorki website.
