TRANSIENCE AND PERMANENCE: CTM FESTIVAL’S 20TH BIRTHDAY

TRANSIENCE AND PERMANENCE: CTM FESTIVAL’S 20TH BIRTHDAY

The CTM Festival, running parallel to the Transmediale, is celebrating its 20th anniversary from 25.01. to 03.02.19. Fittingly, this year’s edition revolves around the theme “Persistence,” and will once again showcase electronic, digital and experimental music in conjunction with a cultural program running late into the night. The opening exhibition on Friday, “Persisting Realities,” will display 17 artists who examine the emotional issues of persevering and thriving in the face of ongoing social changes. Put on your ice skates afterwards to jam at the rink inside Berghain, a week-long production soundtracked by DJs, such as Yoshitaka Hikawa, Leevisa and Frikimo this Saturday (26.01.2019). As the ironic title of the closing concert suggests, the polarizing discourse of change and constancy will likely be left unanswered. Slated for 3.2, “As If We Could Change” will see artist Tirzah making her Berlin debut, Yves Tumor mixing ambient, R&B and pop, and the collective Curl blurring hip hop and jazz to create a flurry of experimental sound. Year 20 will definitely be marked by variety — take a look at the program here and start February with a sense of persistence!
