In July 2023 a new cafe opened near the water tower on Kollwitzplatz: Sirene. Owners Lena Linkova and Aleksei Linkov, who have been working in the restaurant business since 2011, spent several years commuting between the cities of Kyiv and Berlin. They always wanted to open their own cafe, and now that they’ve found the right location, the team’s favorite breakfasts are making their debut. Our personal favorites are the fluffy Cottage Cheese Pancakes topped with caramel and walnuts – a typical Ukrainian breakfast specialty. Then there’s something for the hearty breakfasters: the Norwegian Egg Benedict or Turkish-style eggs accompanied by sourdough bread from Zeit für Brot. The coffee, meanwhile, comes from Berlin roastery Fjord – another one of our favorites. The interior was co-designed by architecture and design studio Rho Vision, and every detail has been carefully chosen to create a welcoming atmosphere. This place is all about community: the international team has made it their mission to establish themselves in the neighborhood as a welcoming place to gather and connect. So drink up, fill up and say hi!
