From the first computer editing programs to the possibilities of “downloading” – Since the term “digital art” was coined in the 80s with Harold Cohen’s work “Aaron”, the term has rapidly evolved and become increasingly complex as technology advances. Currently, the emergence of blockchains and NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) is causing headlines and gaining more and more relevance in the digital (art) world. The exhibition “NfTNeTArT. From Net Art to Art NFT“, running from 19.02.22 to 12.03.22, is dedicated to the development of internet art, NFTs, and blockchain and can be visited both physically and online via jpg.space. Curated by Office Impart in cooperation with Panke.Gallery, the exhibition features nine International Artists including Kim Asendorf, LaTurbo Avedon, Sarah Friend, LIA, Jonas Lund, Rhea Myers, Rafaël Rozendaal, Cornelia Sollfrank, Harm van den Dorpel, who individually engage with the medium through aesthetic, narrative, critical and performative explorations that illuminate the various facets of NFTs and examine their limitations and possibilities.
The works range from older creations of Internet art to contemporary works, some developed specifically for the exhibition, showcasing a spectrum of generative art in the context of the history of Internet art. Despite the complexity of the subject matter, the exhibition is not only designed for experts but also offers many different starting points for less involved visitors to approach the world of Internet art and NFTs. The relevance and complexity of the topic make this exhibition worth a visit.
