Walking down Oranienstraße, your eye will, at some point, be inevitably drawn upwards to a bright, golden, neon light set against brown brick. You have arrived at Goldies — your new gateway to deep fried potato heaven. The interior is simple, and brightly lit. Wooden chairs against long tables align the walls, leading to an installation of scattered yellow light tubes at the back. Armed with the best deep fryer in town, the team at Goldies marries up the simple potato fry with honest yet ingenious combinations of flavors and toppings — my favourite being the “Miso-Furikake”: crispy fries topped with miso mayo, pickled radish, and a furikake algae sesame mix (best washed down with an Oreo milkshake.) Other crowd pleasures include the “Chilli-Cheese” and the “Peking Duck.” All reasonably priced, all delicious. So the next time you’re in the mood for Pommes, stop by Goldies, take a seat under the disco ball and prepare never to go back to plain old “Ketchup-Mayo” again.
