CONTEMPORARY DANCE FROM LONDON — RAMBERT AT THE HAUS DER BERLINER FESTSPIELE

CONTEMPORARY DANCE FROM LONDON — RAMBERT AT THE HAUS DER BERLINER FESTSPIELE

Though spring seems a long way off, things are hotting up already at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele now that dance company Rambert are in residence. Founded at the beginning of the 20th century, the London ballet group is one of the world’s great contemporary dance companies – Audrey Hepburn herself danced in the group before her acting career. This March, Rambert is now in town with the German premieres of two special performances. “Enter Achilles” is the Brit pub culture dance piece by choreographer Lloyd Newson that revolutionised the ballet stage 25 years ago and has now been reworked by Sadler’s Wells. Kibwe Tavares’s “Aisha und Abhaya” meanwhile combines elements of fairytale narrative with Sharon Eyal’s contemporary choreography, accompanied by dark techno from GAIKA. Both performances show how ballet brings across emotion unlike any other art form. You don’t have to be a lover of dance to feel the impact of these works – they are bound to be a feast for all the senses.
