BETWEEN SPACES — A LOOK AT URBANISM IN SCHLOSS BIESDORF

Built nearly 150 years ago, Schloss Biesdorf is a blush colored classicist villa settled in a picturesque park in, you guessed it, Biesdorf. After undergoing extensive restoration, the mansion became home to the ZKR — Center for Art and Public Space — creating a trifecta of history, art, and nature that makes for a perfect Sunday afternoon escape. With its second exhibition since opening in September 2016, ZKR presents a selection of American artist Gordon Matta-Clark’s works as a foundation for interpretation, dialogue, and destruction. “Between Spaces” offers unique, parallel perspectives into how economic and political interests shape urban environments using various frames of reference — from 1980s East Berlin to 1970s New York to contemporary urbanity the world over, with works by artists of the former GDR playing a key role.
