I’m always happy to see forward thinking contemporary graphic designs in public spaces. Unfortunately it’s kind of rare in Berlin. Cultural institutions are usually the ones that show no guts to try something outside the box like many other cities (London, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Zurich, etc..) Berlin is jam-packed with extremely talented graphic designers, but alas most clients choose the tried and tested (read: boring) to cater to the public. So I was more than pleased to see the great redesign of the „Berliner Festspiele„, a clear and beautiful contemporary CI by Studio Studio CRR that stands out. I really hope that the “Geiz ist Geil” (cheap is beautiful) mentality will be overthrown by an aesthetic awareness so that one day Berlin will be known for its great design.
