25 YEARS OF ART CRITICISM: CELEBRATING TEXTE ZUR KUNST

It all started in the early nineties in Cologne: the first issue of Texte zur Kunst, founded by Stefan Germer and Isabelle Graw, was published. 25 years, and numerous essays and discussions later, the magazine can be found in bookshelves all around the world. From the beginning, pop theorists like Diedrich Diederichsen and musicians like Dirk von Lowtzow set the tone of the texts, written to all those who believe that art isn’t complete without criticism. By rejecting the dominant canon of society, a new approach was created between the lines – from A for accelerationism and B for Bourdieu, to Z for Žižek. No wonder then that “Texte zur Kunst” chose the theme “Canon Today” for its 25th anniversary on Friday; at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele, artists like Karl Holmqvist and Anne Imhof, as well as the philosopher Juliane Rebentisch, will discuss the possibilities of canonisation in today’s art world. From 22h, you can raise your glasses and listen to music by Pandora’s Jukebox, Kablam und Bianca Heuser. (Text: Laura Storfner / Photo: Ilya Lipkin)
