EIGHT NOMINEES, EIGHT EXHIBITIONS, EIGHT PROJECT SPACES: SEVEN YEARS OF THE BERLIN ART PRIZE

EIGHT NOMINEES, EIGHT EXHIBITIONS, EIGHT PROJECT SPACES: SEVEN YEARS OF THE BERLIN ART PRIZE

In two weeks, the Berlin Art Prize will be awarded for the seventh time to coincide with the start of Art Week (15–18.09.2022). The prize is awarded by a jury of five, which this year consists of artists Candice Brice, Anna Ehrenstein and Amelie von Wulffen, curator Alya Sebti and researcher Sinthujan Varatharajah. They will be choosing from a total of 700 anonymous submissions – a process that has remained the same since the award was launched by art historians Sophie Jung and Alicia Reuter and artists Zoe Claire Miller and Ulrich Wulff in 2013. Anyone can apply for the prize, regardless of name and background. Here it’s all about the art. The award is intended to celebrate community-led and independent arts outside of the influence of institutions and market mechanisms. This is truer this year than ever with the involvement of various Berlin project spaces in the award. From today until 14.10.22, you can see solo exhibitions from the eight shortlisted artists (who come from seven different countries) at eight different venues. Not only will you be able to discover a new art, but you can check out some new places – and new perspectives – too.
