AILINE LIEFELD RECOMMENDS: DANIEL’S EATERY

AILINE LIEFELD RECOMMENDS: DANIEL’S EATERY

I have a date with Daniel, the chef behind a very personal underground restaurant Daniel’s Eatery in Prenzlauer Berg. As he opened the door to welcome me, he was very friendly and not a bit stressed. That’s probably because he serves the same menu two nights in a row and I came to the second night. The first thing I got to see was the freshly baked homemade bread. I started to look into all of his pans and asked him loads of questions. Then I discovered a recipe for the “Mondrian Cake”; I’ve had this once at the San Francisco MoMa and couldn’t wait to try his version! Meanwhile his guests arrived and we ate and chat, moving from one dish to the next and one wine to the next. I was amazed by all of his creative food preparations and how he managed to be a host, chef and guest at the same time. The evening was really the “perfect dinner” (like in the German TV show). Daniel’s dinner will be served at a “special” location this week. Too bad I won’t be able to make it this time but I will definitely return soon!
