The world doesn’t need any more objects. We all know that by now and it’s true. But sometimes we desire a new item or two to add to our beloved collections. Maybe it’s a loved one’s birthday or we want to treat ourselves or we’re having a bad day and, even if we know it’s a trick, spoiling ourselves with beautiful things cheers us up. Museum stores are always a good place to discover modern treasures and everyday pleasures. There is a particularly good one in Mitte: The Fotografiska Store invites you to search and find, marvel and yearn in a historic location full of contemporary visual art. Curated by Adina Bier, the shop surprises with its unconventional charm and unexpected range. The curation considers sustainability and creativity. The objects are often a result of collaborations between local artists and international brands. Of course, the shop is also influenced by the changing exhibitions of Fotografiska and the Berlin zeitgeist so, naturally, there are a few editions between jewelry and books, vases and chocolate. Perhaps the world doesn’t need any more objects, but the city could certainly do with this store.
