“Analog is the new organic.” That’s the motto of the concept store Analog, dedicated to all things printed or made completely by hand – analog, in other words. The store mainly sells books and magazines, but also postcards, posters and even individual letters from old neon signs, salvaged and restored by the Buchstaben Museum. For fans of design and typography, anyone interested in architecture and lovers of printed products, this store is truly a treasure trove. Analog was opened at the end of May 2019 by renowned graphic designer Erik Spiekermann, who also runs the printing studio p98a next door offering traditional and digital printing services as well as viewings and workshops. Analog sees itself as a space for the post-digital age – one that brings craftsmanship back into the foreground, links the digital with the analog world and encourages us to slow down in this hectic age. Now the comparison to organic becomes clear: sustainable, natural and homemade products are becoming more and more popular – and not just for the food we eat.
