KARTE DESIGN — SOPHISTICATED AND STYLISH STATIONERY

KARTE DESIGN — SOPHISTICATED AND STYLISH STATIONERY

A Berlin-based boutique stationery company, Karte Design Fabrik is the brainchild of Liz McKeown and Gareth Reardon, who moved over from Sydney in 2011. Selling gift wrap, greeting cards, and mounted prints, the styles are delicate yet decisive; the Between Days greetings cards are a dreamy haze of pastels balanced in a simple circle, and the more geometric designs, such as the Tannenbaum gift wrap, features bold patterns with a pop of yellow. Our favorite, however, is the selection of gold foil products – in particular, the Shaking Through design of offbeat, gold triangles. The stationery is simple enough to be useful for any occasion, and beautiful enough to want to keep for yourself. For last minute shoppers: select products are also available at Modulor. HENRIKE JENSS RECOMMENDS: GÁTÔ PÂTISSERIE

HENRIKE JENSS RECOMMENDS: GÁTÔ PÂTISSERIE

We’ve heard it before – Wedding is up and coming. Thankfully, its reputation has reverberated all the way to Paris. Since October, Wedding has had the pleasure of having French patisserie GáTô on its team, located near Leopoldplatz. Here, owners Gabrielle and Thomas bake fresh croissants, pains au chocolat, and brioche daily. For Berliners, these are well-known treats. But there is more: chouquettes, navettes, financiers… everything that falls under the Viennoiserie category. And a changing selection of tartes and quiches have regulars coming back. Previously, the confectioner and chef duo sold their goods at Parisian food markets, delivering their delicious pastries to the other side of town by bicycle. Now, they have settled down in Berlin, and extended their patisserie with a café. A little extra for parents is the children’s playroom – for other guests it’s the quiet time to enjoy a coffee. NEWHAUS — PLAN YOUR 2017 BALTIC SEA ESCAPE

NEWHAUS — PLAN YOUR 2017 BALTIC SEA ESCAPE

Tucked between pine forests and sand dunes, steps from the ocean, NewHaus is a modern retreat on the Baltic coast, about 25km north of Rostock. Made up of two homes, called Pine and Sand, each residence offers 120 square meters of living space suitable for up to eight people. Decked out with rustic charm, the homes’ lodge-y exteriors come complemented by modern furnishings, state-of-the-art technology, and private saunas accessible via the terrace. Last summer, the Cee Cee team had the pleasure of staying at NewHaus, complete with walks on the beach and freshly-caught fish on the grill. Our tip: Make use of the coming holiday to book your stay – or better yet – book both houses for a cozy gathering of family and friends. (Text: Victoria Pease)

BENEDICT: ALL-DAY BREAKFAST DECADENCE

BENEDICT: ALL-DAY BREAKFAST DECADENCE

Mornings, and their innocent lightness, are my time. Most importantly though, it’s breakfast that makes it special. Whether pancakes, porridge, or poached eggs – the morning meal is a feel-good, power-booster. The team behind restaurant Benedict also feels strongly about this. Their motto: 24/7 breakfast. Successfully established in Israel, they kindly chose to branch out to Berlin. Since November 2016, find dishes to feed all tastes – from sweet to salty; from classic to modern. Forget about watching the clock, when the craving for a scrumptious plate of blueberry pancakes, eggs Florentine, or the simplicity of a croissant and freshly-squeezed orange juice kicks in – Benedict has got your back. To ease into the concept, limited opening hours have been the rule since November. But starting today (15.12.2016), doors will be open until midnight. In 2017, then, the 24/7 cycle will take over. And because Benedict is part of the newly-opened Max Brown hotel, don’t be surprised to meet a herd of international guests at 2 a.m., struggling with time zones and aching for a plate of scrambled eggs and bacon. After all, it’s breakfast somewhere right now. So now you have the choice: an hour to recharge, or just book a staycation? (Text: Nina Trippel / photos: Sven Hausherr)

SOWALE: JAPANESE CULTURE FOR PAPER AFICIONADOS

SOWALE: JAPANESE CULTURE FOR PAPER AFICIONADOS

Back in Fukuoka, Japan, Tomomi and Yasuhiro Tadamatsu owned a little paper shop that only opened its doors on weekends. At the same time, both had full-time jobs. Visiting Berlin, they instantly fell in love with the city. Several years of preparation and planning later, the couple decided to take the leap and launch their stationery boutique. Since June 2016, visitors can find a curated selection of paper and prints in their Helmholtzkiez store. The collection includes Sowale notebooks, sketchbooks, envelopes, and cards made of high-end paper. Yasuhiro is the creative force behind the paper-loving company; Many of the products sold here are based on his own sketches and are printed in Japan. Products designed by other Japanese artists have also found their place in the lovingly-styled shop, alongside paintings by the owner’s artsy friends. (Text: Ferdinand Hamsch / Photos: Anne Freitag)
