STEPHANIE FRANZIUS ON KOREAN FOOD AT SORI

It was only on second glance that I noticed this small shop with the red door, Sori, since it’s a little hidden. You’ll find Sori on Senefelder Strasse right behind Danziger Strasse on the left hand side. My attempt to try the Korean dishes by the petit chef – she’s a cook and waitress in one  – was more than worth while; the menu offers selected Korean dishes and classics such as Bibimbab or udon noodles and specialties such as the handmade dumplings (by the way, all items can be ordered without meat) as well as fine drinks like the plum tea, Korean beer and exquisite liquors. The atmosphere is intimate and cozy thanks to its individual furnishing. Most importantly she serves “slow food” which definitely is worth the (slightly longer) wait!

STAUB GOLD – A TEMPORARY SHOP FOR YOUNG DESIGN

Staub is a Berlin collective of designers and artists (among them is Magdalena Kohler of fashion brand Trikoton) that runs a joint studio in Kreuzberg. From time to time they host exhibitions, parties or temporary shops like “Staub Gold” which is opening tonight. Until the end of January, they will be featuring a sound installation by Hands on Sound as well as (very fitting) gold jewelries and items by a UdK graduate Norwegian designer Siren Elise Wilhelmsen and others.

“THIS IS MY DREAM” – YOHJI YAMAMOTO DOCUMENTARY SCREENING

Yohji Yamamoto is quite a fascinating character. Although the Japanese designer is known best for being the mastermind of his own avant-garde and intellectual fashion brand, he is also the creative director of Y-3, and in private Mr. Yamamoto has a strong predilection for fast luxury cars. If you’d like to get to know more about him and how he works: a) watch the 1989 Wim Wenders’ film “Notebook on Cities and Clothes” and b) watch the short documentary by Theodore Stanley. The film was shot for the tenth anniversary of Y-3, the collaboration line between Yamamoto and Adidas that helped sportswear fuse with style, which premiered in Tokyo and New York. Tonight in Mitte the short film will be screening all night long with headphones and cocktails. The event is by invite only but we’re giving away a pair of 2 tickets plus limited edition DVD package including a scented candle! “Holy Shit Shopping” is currently touring across Germany and will open its doors at Alte Münze in Berlin this weekend. You’ll find fashion, jewelry, accessories, objects for your home such as by Pension für Produkte, interior couture by Komat or even books by Verbrecher Verlag and Kookbooks. The hardest part will be to separate the wheat from the chaff from over 200 companies at a space bigger than 3000 square meters.
