A TIP FOR 48H NEUKÖLLN: “THE GOSSIP MACHINE” – CHITCHATTING PICTURES, BACKBITING WHISPERS

This weekend 48 Stunden Neukölln art festival is taking place at different venues throughout the quarter offering a vast program. Usually not everything is worth checking out…but here’s one not to miss: Sandra Tebbe and Hector de Guerre have created an installation and holding two performance of their sound-meets-images project called “The Gossip Machine.

THREE COURSE PICNIC

THREE COURSE PICNIC

Surprise open air dinner: Benjamin and Denise of Bistro are holding a gourmet picnic on Saturday. Start the evening off with a glass of elderflower champagne followed by organic, seasonal and regional delicacies – most of the produce they use is freshly harvested directly from their friend’s Gärtnerei. Minimum suggested donation for the three course picnic plus apéro is 14€; vegan, vegetarian or other food concerns may be requested.

Sat 18.6. from 17 h, please make reservations via bistro@basso-berlin.de; location in Kreuzberg will be given in the confirmation email (in case of rain it will take place indoors).

A TIP FOR FÊTE DE LA MUSIQUE: HEROES BLOCK PARTY

After the weekend’s revelry, there’ll be Monday to rest and relax just in time for Tuesday, when Fête de la Musique turns the entire city of Berlin into a music festival. Get ready – you’re sure to dance the night away! In front of café Heroes there’ll be a “block party” – with music acts yet to be discovered such as French artist Deoda Byrnes whose electronic tunes are quite peculiar while Auérlie Emery‘s languid beautiful voice (à la Mazzy Star) will capture the heart of many. Starting at 21h Nom de Guerre will turn up their indie pop sounds.

KORIAT – SWEET DREAMS TO EAT

I can’t imagine any other place in Berlin offering cakes more delicious than at Koriat. Unfortunately a lot of people seem to agree with me so sometimes you must stand in line in front of the little cake manufacturer located in “Kreuzkölln”. Just be patient and you will be greatly rewarded! Every single piece made by Mr. Aviv Koriat and his team is a dream come true: all handmade on premises from select fresh ingredients. If you see the rhubarb cake… go for it. If not, opt for the lemon or orange crème tart. There are 40 different cakes in total, but the assortment is ever changing and they also feature seasonal choices. You will only find two tiny tables in front of the shop, so either way get yourself a piece to take home or ask for a plastic fork and enjoy the sweets at the Maybachufer located at the end of the street.

DA PIADINA – SNACK NORTHERN ITALIAN STYLE IN MITTE

Yesterday the family-run bistro “Da Piadina“ opened its doors, offering handmade and yummy “Piadine” stuffed with produce from the Emilia-Romagna region where it originates from. A piadina is perfect for a quick lunch or a bite between meals. During the summer it will most certainly make a great picnic snack at the little park across the street on Gipsstrasse. And you have to try their homemade iced tea with chunks of fresh peaches and mint leaves!
