NOER: WINE BAR & SHOP

For those of you who enjoy wine but haven’t got a clue about it (just like me), there’s a new place to go: Noer, a shop and wine bar in one. What makes this place unique is the fact that André Gersdorf and Marion Streubel, who are behind the concept, don’t offer their bottles in a typical cluster but simply by mood and effect. That too is how their house range is described on bottles’ labels. The family range is available all year round completed by a seasonal selection. All wines hail from small family-run wineries; prices start from 6,35€. On site, the wines are served by the glass alongside cold tapas (in the evening) or try the picnic set which comes with a wine cooler and plastic glasses.

“BIER” BEER – FOR YOUR PARTY

The graphic designer’s eye is often taken by simple designs. This is true not only for my visual sense but my gustatory receptors too. If you’re like me, you’ll be happy to find this simple young beer which goes by the similarly simple name of “Bier”. You’ll find this label in small bars and what’s really nice is that you can have your next “WG party” sponsored by them. Just write an email to them and once a month they decide which event will be catered next!

The “Salumeria da Nino” is an ugly place. But you’ll find yummy sandwich toppings, because their vitrine is full of fine selections of tasty morsels. Filled zucchini, grilled oyster mushrooms, caponata, grilled white and green asparagus, and my favorite, patties made from broccoli or cauliflower and – I am absolutely certain about this – a dose of MDMA, because the flavors start an euphoric party in your mouth. You could of course go for the great salami, cheese or ham. There’s also a “Pasta del Giorno” and for “mangiare” you can sit outside while watching the little children from the Italian kindergarten around the corner play – super cute, those little spaghetti-monsters.

Tonight is the opening celebration of Stilrad’s Berlin shop. If you were considering buying a new bike instead of one of those second-hand boneshakers, I recommend stopping by. You’ll not only find chic bikes like the Italian “Bella Ciao” for women but hard-to-find wonderful accessories such as baskets by Wald (the US classic that was unavailable in Germany until now) or the incredibly harmonic sounding brass bike bells from Osaka, Japan.

SCUBE PARKS – SLEEPING BY THE SWIMMING POOL

In case you were wondering what those wooden cubes at the Kreuzberg-based public swimming pool Sommerbad Kreuzberg (aka Prinzenbad) could possibly be – those five containers called “Scube Park” are sort of a temporary hostel. Made of solid sustainable wood, each cube fits four people and comes with the very essential amenities: bed with linen, lights, sockets, and – that’s it. So instead of sleeping in a stuffy hostel (or your home) you may want to spend your Berlin summer nights at Prinzenbad – literally – since right now you can only enter/exit the Scube Park during Prinzenbad’s official opening hours. So you’ll be stuck there over night, but this way you can definitely be the first one to jump in the pool in the morning… Rates are flexible; for bookings inquiries visit: info@scube-parks.de.
