THE ART OF TRAVEL AND VOYAGE AT THE KUPFERSTICHKABINETT

This winter has seemed even longer than usual, but now that spring is finally creeping over the horizon, the thought of a holiday is on everybody’s mind. For this reason, it’s perhaps the perfect time to visit the Kupferstichkabinett‘s new exhibition “We’re Off Then“; a collection exploring the fascinating connection between art and travel, which has existed for centuries and which still remains integral to today’s culture – how many Instagram photos do you post every time you go abroad? While the Kupferstichkabinett is not the most well-known museum in Berlin, it holds the largest collection of art in the graphic medium in the whole of Germany; an incredibly impressive collection. Every summer, the gallery curates an exhibition with a relevant popular theme to encourage you to browse a tiny portion of the illustrations, drawings and prints held there. Visit now, and you can wander through images of pilgrimage and cartography, locomotion and transportation, from British pop art and illustrations of fictional lands to Olafur Eliasson’s stunning aerial photographs of Iceland. It’s a great way to experience the riches of the Kupferstichkabinett — be sure to make it your destination before the summer truly starts.
