BARBARA RUSS RECOMMENDS: THE SUNDAY BREAKFAST MARKET

BARBARA RUSS RECOMMENDS: THE SUNDAY BREAKFAST MARKET

Once upon a time, one of my favorite cafés served the “Hemingway Breakfast” which consisted of: a cigarette, a glass of whiskey and a newspaper. Whether the writer actually started his day like this, we don’t know. But the fact is, our notion of what we call the “first meal of the day” differ greatly from person to person. If it’s on a Sunday – and a typical Berliner is already starting to feel weltschmerz from the Monday blues – then only few things can really help soothe: a Vietnamese porridge and a healthy wheat grass smoothie. From now on, you’ll find them at Markthalle 9 on every third Sunday of the month. It’s just like Street Food Thursday, but a Sunday breakfast version! Fear not: this is not only for early birds, breakfast will be served until 18h. (Photos: Mary Scherpe (top), Shantanu Starick (left))
