A BEE’S FEAST & HONEY FROM BERLIN

A BEE’S FEAST & HONEY FROM BERLIN

Being a daughter of a hobby beekeeper, I can assure you that the mysterious colony collapse disorder has been taking place here in Germany too. Since the blooming time is around the corner, you could help the busy bees get their fuel together by planting some flowers on your balcony. The easiest way to do this is by buying a little seed package called “Bienenschmaus”, availble at Alnatura supermarket or at a drugstore. A few months later you’ll be able to get the yield back by getting a glass of honey from a local beekeeper: Neuköllner HonigBee Berlin  (Lichterfelde), Imkerei Oertel (Marzahn) or Berlinerhonig Berlinerhonig, who introduces all beekeepers and their territory on their website (unfortunately they’re quite pricey). The spring 2012 yield will probably be available from end of May to June.
