JAMIE RAAP RECOMMENDS: PINTEREST

In case you have not yet received an invite to  Pinterest, I suggest asking around. Some clever people have put together a simple site for sharing images that visual junkies of all kinds will appreciate. Pinterest seems to be exactly what has been missing on the web, a way to easily assemble your lists of blog bookmarks, collected tumblr images, recipes and other tidbits of inspiration in a visual and user friendly manner. Here is how it works; you receive an invite from a friend to set up your profile and boards or categories like “Home Decor”, “Art” or “Bubble Fetish” and share them with everyone or a specific list of friends or keep it private. The only mini hinderance is that you will need to have a Facebook or Twitter account. Adding assets can be done directly from your personal files but better yet from a website link. This option allows you to choose the specific image from the site you want to showcase, which is good for trackbacks. Apart from the obvious “liking”, “sharing” and “organizing” of your niceties, I think the real potential gem here is to be found in making and collaborating on moodboards for a specific project. It definitely has a leaning to DIY. But this is good as it is keeping in line with inspiring instead of profiting. They separate the links for purchase in a section called “Gifts”. I suppose this is a way to make sure this does not become overrun by commerce. The one thing that is annoying to me is the repetition, so many images are duplicated and reposted. Who knew so many people were interested in rabbit buttons…
