BRIGITTA HORVAT RECOMMENDS: HARRY LEHMANN

BRIGITTA HORVAT RECOMMENDS: HARRY LEHMANN

Rarely has a shop charmed me as much as the Charlottenburg perfume store Harry Lehmann Parfum nach Gewicht (Harry Lehmann Perfume by Weight), which has been around since 1926. Head down Kantstrasse away from the city center and it almost feels like you’re leaving Berlin. But no… Somewhat hidden on the left there suddenly emerges this perfume store with its outrageous dried-flower décor. I quickly found my personal favorite scent. It’s called Chatelaine and corresponds exactly to my taste: heavy, sweet, feminine, and powerful. Were I a man, I’d opt for Vamps, an understated scent with a slightly woody note, or, for something more sporty, Valeria. There are more than 50 fragrances to choose from, and you can even mix and match to create your own unique concoction. Marlene Dietrich certainly appreciated that – she had her perfumes made here back in the day! (Text: Brigitta Horvat / Photo: (top and right) Brigitta Horvat, (bottom left) Mark Borthwick)
