SUNDOWNER ON FRIDAYS: DRINKS, MUSIC & WEEKEND VIBES AT CEE CEE CAFE

SUNDOWNER ON FRIDAYS: DRINKS, MUSIC & WEEKEND VIBES AT CEE CEE CAFE

How about winding down the week on a quiet corner, with relaxing vibes and a refreshing beverage of your choice? If that’s your idea of the perfect Friday night too, come on by, because from now on Fridays are Aperitivo Time at Cee Cee Cafe. Maybe you’ve heard: We’ve opened a pop-up cafe, around for the next few months somewhere between Checkpoint Charlie and the Jewish Museum. It’s not on your route home exactly, but it’s a wonderfully tranquil and sunny corner right in the middle of it all. Our barista team serves specialty coffee and matcha from Matchasome during the day, and bubbly, sparkling and chilled beverages in the evening. With and without – that is to say: recently non-alcoholic drinks from the Mindful Drinking Club complement the selection when the aperitivo o’clock starts. So best come right at 17h – music is provided. Small snacks for before (or after) dinner are also available. So, all that’s missing for the best balmy summer evening is you.

WHERE TO BRUNCH THIS WEEKEND: JAPANESE BITES AT CEE CEE CAFE

WHERE TO BRUNCH THIS WEEKEND: JAPANESE BITES AT CEE CEE CAFE

Some readers may already know that we have started our very own Cee Cee (pop-up) Cafe in an extremely central neighborhood just a stone’s throw from the Jewish Museum. We will be hosting a rotating weekend-only brunch series and we’re excited to announce our first menu. Brought to you by a team of expat foodies from Japan living in Berlin, the cafe will be showcasing Japanese dishes with a delicious Western twist. Our current sweet and savory brunch specials include a Kakuni Burger with melt-in-your-mouth juicy Japanese braised pork belly, karashi-mustard mayo sauce and a side of edamame. Or, for a summery and light option, there’s a soba salad with cold Japanese buckwheat noodles on top of leafy greens tossed in aromatic homemade sesame oil dressing. Then there’s the vegan onigiri combo which includes rice balls, pickles and a bowl of cold summer miso soup that’s a perfect dish for warm days. If you like to start your day with something sweet, we recommend the toasted matcha cake bread with matcha cream and seasonal berries and, for those who like their brunch a bit boozy, some not-so-classic drinks. There’s the Yuzullini (think Bellini but with yuzu-honey), and homemade lemonade that might remind you of a popular Japanese milk-based soft drink known as Calpico. If you are looking for a brunch that serves up fresh flavors, this is your chance!

COMMUNITY, CREATIVITY AND REALLY GOOD COFFEE — JOIN US TOMORROW FOR THE OPENING OF THE CEE CEE (POP-UP) CAFE

COMMUNITY, CREATIVITY AND REALLY GOOD COFFEE — JOIN US TOMORROW FOR THE OPENING OF THE CEE CEE (POP-UP) CAFE

Cee Cee has some exciting news: we are opening a (pop-up) cafe! And not only is it just around the corner from our new studio, but it is probably in the sunniest corner of the city – the perfect location for sipping on a flat white, an iced matcha latte or a cheeky glass of wine. For six months, Cee Cee will take over what you might know as Akkurat cafe, one of our most beloved neighborhood spots. The opportunity came to us by surprise, but how could we resist creating a place to compliment our only-online existence. We want Cee Cee Cafe to be a playground – a friendly space for our community to meet, to realize collaborative projects and discover even more of the people, food, drink and creativity that our city has to offer. The cafe’s great coffee and pastries will stay the same, but from now on you can look forward to brunch (this weekend and in the future), pop-up events and much more!

To kick things off, this Friday (09.06.2023 17–22h) we will have an opening party and we’d love to see you there. Join us for drinks from some of our favorite Berlin providers: cold beers from our good friends at BRLO, fun wines from Nature’s Calling, kombucha from a former Cee Cee designer and now co-founder of Bouche, cooling beverages from LemonAid, non-alcoholic cocktails and wine from The Mindful Drinking Club, and last but not least some spritzes (is it even a summer party if there isn’t spritz?). Hot from the grill, the guys from Munchies will be selling Birria Beef and Veggy Birria Tacos while Crane’s Canteen will be serving up Elotes (Mexican corn) – a delicious cheesy dish the Cee Cee team can’t get enough of right now. Besides cheese (-y corn) we will be serving tunes, sunshine and good vibes. We can’t wait to see you there!

If you want to run your own brunch month, hold a pop-up evening or just want to tell us your thoughts, we’d love to hear from you. The cafe is about community, curiosity and co-creating a summer of delicious fun.

HOMEMADE BAGELS AND DESSERTS AT THE CHARMING ODD CAFÉ

HOMEMADE BAGELS AND DESSERTS AT THE CHARMING ODD CAFÉ

There are two bears at Odd Café. There’s one that lays overturned, with its paws holding the glass of a table. Another, smaller, is made of china and roams amongst the bagels in the counter cabinet. The place is not named after these small oddities, but rather the odd, coincidental trio of friends that came together to start the cafe in April 2023. Despite all odds, the trio – Sanghyun No and Jonghwan Kim from South Korea (and the people behind Swordmaster Noodle), and their friend Ivana Stanic from Serbia – met and decided to open this neighborhood cafe together.

While the space has charming handmade furniture – repurposed table legs stand alone holding stone tabletops, mismatched chairs, even a rocket and typewriter – it’s intention and design keep the space sleek and bright. Brighter still is the service: the team are clearly enjoying running their new space and it seeps into the friendly service. For a savory treat, bagels are handmade onsite by Ivana. Our favorites are the salmon and cream cheese, and the goat cheese and honey. They’re perfectly seasoned and make an easy breakfast with a friend, or for an un-messy remote working breakfast if you decide to set up and work here for the day. If you’d like something sweet, they have cakes also made in-house, including a whisky honey cake, basque cheesecake, apple cinnamon blondie or a classic chunky choc-brownie. Their Lotus latte is made with Biscotti (yum) and they have a Bonbon espresso, which is Sanghyun’s take on a Vietnamese condensed milk coffee. All the coffee uses a single origin Ethiopian Sidamo bean – Sanghyun’s preference and a favorite among coffee enthusiasts. Their teas are also special – hand packaged themselves, they have a special Sujeong Cha tea which is a reinterpretation of the traditional Korean Sujeong cinnamon tea, Jeju Baram green tea and Jeju Dol which is made from organic brown roasted rice and green tea. Between their sweets, bagels, sunny terrace and neighborhood-cafe service, there’s many reasons it’s not so odd to visit Odd.

AUSTRALIAN BRUNCH AND COFFEE CULTURE MEETS PARISIAN BISTRO STYLE — LUC

AUSTRALIAN BRUNCH AND COFFEE CULTURE MEETS PARISIAN BISTRO STYLE — LUC

Avo toast and a creamy flat white are solid staples in breakfast and brunch these days. Did you know that they originated in Australia? These roots are shared by the owner and namesake of Luc, a cafe in Prenzlauer Berg. Lucian is his name, and he moved from Sydney to Berlin in 2017, settling in Prenzlauer Berg where he opened Café Lac in September 2021. “Speciality coffee, pastries, food and music served by legends” is what the menu says. Of course, the Aussies are legendary not only for their beaches and flat whites, but also for their banter, which at this place comes included with your order. Also on point is the homemade food: How about a hearty open-faced pastrami sandwich with homemade chimichurri, butter-vegemite toast with poached eggs and mustard mayonnaise, toasted banana bread? Or the double-baked pistachio frangipane croissant accompanied by a vegan iced coffee or matcha served with Luc’s famous cold milk foam? All speciality coffees are made with filtered water and fine coffee blends from Sincerely, with whom Luc have created their own blend: Luc Blend of Legends – damn right. This fine food and drink is served in style: the cafe’s “Parisian chic” interior is decorated with marble tables and counters with glass cabinets. Oh, and if you like the music, you can follow Lucon Spotify for that French bistro feeling with your espresso at home.
