Avo toast and a creamy flat white are solid staples in breakfast and brunch these days. Did you know that they originated in Australia? These roots are shared by the owner and namesake of Luc, a cafe in Prenzlauer Berg. Lucian is his name, and he moved from Sydney to Berlin in 2017, settling in Prenzlauer Berg where he opened Café Lac in September 2021. “Speciality coffee, pastries, food and music served by legends” is what the menu says. Of course, the Aussies are legendary not only for their beaches and flat whites, but also for their banter, which at this place comes included with your order. Also on point is the homemade food: How about a hearty open-faced pastrami sandwich with homemade chimichurri, butter-vegemite toast with poached eggs and mustard mayonnaise, toasted banana bread? Or the double-baked pistachio frangipane croissant accompanied by a vegan iced coffee or matcha served with Luc’s famous cold milk foam? All speciality coffees are made with filtered water and fine coffee blends from Sincerely, with whom Luc have created their own blend: Luc Blend of Legends – damn right. This fine food and drink is served in style: the cafe’s “Parisian chic” interior is decorated with marble tables and counters with glass cabinets. Oh, and if you like the music, you can follow Lucon Spotify for that French bistro feeling with your espresso at home.
