SECOND-HAND SHOPPING WITH A SOCIAL CONSCIENCE — GOOD XSAMPLE CHARITY FLEA MARKET

SECOND-HAND SHOPPING WITH A SOCIAL CONSCIENCE — GOOD XSAMPLE CHARITY FLEA MARKET

On the lookout for some christmas goodies and wouldn’t mind boosting your karma bank while you’re at it? Then come to a very special sample sale: the Good Xsample Charity Flea Market this Sunday (01.12.19). Here, all proceeds go straight to the homeless of Berlin. The concept is the collective brainchild of Highsnobietyand One Warm Winter, a local initiative for the homeless which aims to raise awareness amongst the young with projects such as Kiezmarke. Together they were able to win over brands, bloggers and influencers to donate their unused samples (Highsnobiety is giving out their very own as well). And of course there will be plenty of music, snacks and drinks. Also participating: Muschi KreuzbergKönig GalerieSuzie Grime and TISK, amongst others. A high-end flea market with food, drink and a good cause – see you on Sunday. (Text: Katie Burton / Photos: Julien Tell, Studio Hülle & Fülle, Michael Mann)

START THE CELEBRATION SEASON WITH TABLES FOR 2

START THE CELEBRATION SEASON WITH TABLES FOR 2

Looking for an excuse to go out on a Wednesday night? Well we’ve got a party giving you a solid reason for a midweek spell on the dancefloor. The name: Tables for 2 – a dance music night that pairs two DJs who have never performed together to share the decks for the night. Now for the final edition of this innovative mix-up series, bookers have assembled the best line-up to date: Kowe Six from Moonbootica, who have blown away musical boundaries with their five albums and worldwide shows, consistently delivering thrilling, original electronic music. In the DJ booth he’ll be joined by Franziskus Sell, one half of Format:B, whose 15-year back catalog of successful releases has seen them forge their own signature genre: MotorFunk-Sound. These two class acts will be teaming up to take over Kreuzberg’s Night Embassy for a back-to-back set that will leave no musical genre unexplored. This is a rave that will power you through the rest of the week and the months beyond (Text: Andreea Dragos / Photos: Julia Schoierer for Jägermeister)

UPPERS & DOWNERS BERLIN: THE FESTIVAL WHERE CRAFT BEERS MEET ARTISAN COFFEES

UPPERS & DOWNERS BERLIN: THE FESTIVAL WHERE CRAFT BEERS MEET ARTISAN COFFEES

If you’re a beer lover and a coffee connoisseur, why not combine the two at Uppers & Downers Berlin, the festival bringing cutting-edge European beer brewers and coffee roasters together for some wild and wacky hybrids. Normally we’d recommend not mixing your uppers and downers, but if you get the mix right, great things can happen. The festival has stands offering a multitude of brews to taste, including the likes of the “Snoutjuice” coffee stout (11% abv!) from Sweden’s Brewski and the malty imperial coffee stout from Slovenian masters Pivovarna Pelicon. And for those wanting to keep the two brews strictly separate, there’s always nitro coffees and quirky ales from event hosts Motel Beer & Coffee. Food can be had from Lars Exit and entry includes a bottomless tasting glass, so expect to be energized and soothed in equal measure. (Text: Benji Haughton / Photos: Cliff Lucas, Good Beer Hunting)

DICE CONFERENCE + FESTIVAL: THREE DAYS OF DIALOGUE, DANCE, MUSIC, WORKSHOPS AND MORE

DICE CONFERENCE + FESTIVAL: THREE DAYS OF DIALOGUE, DANCE, MUSIC, WORKSHOPS AND MORE

A Diy Queer-feminist Instagram Workshop in a church? Yes, at Dice Conference + Festival (31.10–02.11.2019) boundaries aren’t just pushed, but broken down completely. The result is three days of music featuring an extensive line-up of non-binary, trans and female DJs and performers. The music lineup of mainly electronic acts at Kreuzberg’s Bi Nuu space features genre-hopping veteran and iconoclast DJ MarcelleSHYGIRL, the fierce alter-ego of London-based DJ and singer Blane Muise; and deep house legend Lady Blacktronika. Meanwhile, the Tabor Church is where the festival’s theme of “Overtime” – how society values (or doesn’t value) performers’ time and work – is pursued, with rousing workshops like “Negotiating your Worth“. The space also hosts a multitude of audiovisual wonders including Parisian DJ and producer CRYSTALLMESS with a “pluridisciplinary” show combining music, video and 3D. It concludes a festival that provokes as much discourse as it does dancing. (Text: Benji Haughton / Photos: Lisa Wassmann, Taborkirche)
