HIGH ON HYALURON WITH MYHY — RECOMMENDED BY CAROLINE WOLF

Putting myself in the care of Tatjana Morawietz is one of the best things I’ve done for my skin. In Tatjana’s small MYHY studio on Viktoria-Luise-Platz, she transforms classic microdermabrasion into a unique experience, bringing summer back to your face and soul. Her secret? She produces 100% organic cosmetics with 100% natural, finely balanced ingredients. Tatjana knows every flower, every herb and every oil that’s in her products. As a child, she roamed the forests and meadows of her Upper Bavarian homeland with her grandmother, collecting medicinal herbs and flowers for ointments and tinctures. After studying philosophy and history, she moved to Buckow in Märkische Schweiz and combined her grandmother’s indigenous knowledge with her enthusiasm for modern biotechnological processes. As she massages her serums and oils into my skin after a gentle diamond cut, Tatjana tells me about the farmer who grows the roses for her, how she produces a high-dose hyaluronic acid in her laboratory, and why she swears by the Italian immortelle flower as an unbeatable skin protector. As she tells her stories, I smell summer, forest and sunshine — I could lie here for hours on end. When I get up and look at myself in the mirror, I can hardly believe there’s no make-up or filter on my face. With fresh, dewy skin and a load of summer in my heart, I’m now ready for the cold days in Berlin. The skincare products are hypoallergenic and can be purchased online. THE POWER OF WEIGHTLESSNESS: DISCOVER AER STRETCHING FOR YOUR BODY AND MIND — RECOMMENDED BY VERENA SCHWARZ

After a yoga warm-up and guided breathwork, I take off, secured with cuffs on my wrists and ankles, and float above the mat (held by a monumental wooden beam construction). Wooden rods in my hands give my mind the impression of stability. Slowly I turn, tighten my arms and legs and release. Sometimes I feel the full weight of my body, sometimes I actively work against it. The benefits of the Aer Method are many and varied: mobilization, relaxation, strengthening, regeneration, stress reduction and pain relief… to name just a few. The basis of Aer Stretching is Pravilo, an ancient Slavic movement practice. The origin of the word “pravit” means to straighten something, and pravilo is indeed intended to align the body through gravity and stretching. Mother and son duo Tamara Shengeliya and Alexander Kromm brought the concept from Tbilisi, Georgia to Berlin, adding the latest scientific findings. Training at Aer is always 1:1 according to an individualized plan, led by specialized trainers, ideally once or twice a week. In keeping with the holistic approach practiced and taught here, you can attend grounding yoga classes with master instructor Alex Williams, which combine breathing exercises and deep relaxation. After my session, I feel relaxed, blockages have been released. I leave the studio feeling a little bit lighter.

Since opening in 2017 The Forsberg has been one of Wedding’s go-to cocktail bars for a spritz at happy hour to a nightcap in the early morning. And over the summer of 2024, they expanded to lunch. Owner Charles Forsberg and his fiancée, Rasa Urneziute, revamped the bar’s small annex and named it Schnella Mozzarella, a sweet, airy daytime café specializing in generously-portioned, Italian sandwiches for dine-in or takeaway. They serve great coffee from Bonanza, with hot chocolate soon to come. The menu is divided into cool Freshies and panini-style Toasties, featuring ingredients like house-roasted veggies, mortadella, burrata, pistachio, artichoke cream, scamorza, tapenade and the like. Whether Freshie or Toastie, there are options to suit vegetarians and meat-eaters, along with changing seasonal specials. Layered between fluffy fladenbrot and garnished with cornichons or olives, a Schnella Mozzarella sandwich has quickly become my favorite local lunch. There are a handful of seats inside, plus plenty of sidewalk seating for warmer days. And once it’s quitting time, pair a Schnella Mozzarella creation with a drink in the original Forsberg space, where all the sandwiches are on the menu once evening comes and the cocktail bar takes over.

COFFEE AND CAKES AT HANSAVIERTEL’S CAFÉ BUCHWALD — RECOMMENDED BY LEONIE HERWEG

“Kaffee und Kuchen” is a sacred ritual in Germany and nowhere is it celebrated more perfectly than at Konditorei Café Buchwald in Hansaviertel. The café is a fourth-generation family-owned business. Its founder, Gustav Buchwald, was appointed court confectioner to the Prussian Court in 1842, so it’s no wonder they know what they’re doing. Located close to Bärenbrücke, near the river Spree, it’s the perfect start or end to a stroll through the Tiergarten and Hansaviertel’s modernist architecture. My recommendation: skip coffee and go straight to cake. While the café is famous for its “Baumkuchen”, they serve all the classics — think “Donauwelle”, “Frankfurter Kranz”, “Herrentorte”, “Schwarzwälderkirschtorte” or, my personal favorite, “Stachelbeere Baisertorte”. It’s so delicious that my 96-year-old relative Klaus and I sometimes find ourselves queuing before they open.
