CYANOTYPE WORKSHOP — CREATE YOUR OWN BLUE-HUED PRINTS WITH KARINA ROVIRA

CYANOTYPE WORKSHOP — CREATE YOUR OWN BLUE-HUED PRINTS WITH KARINA ROVIRA

At the end of June 2023, the Cee Cee team headed to Libken in Gerswalde. In a place where there is plenty of room for work and thought, we used the opportunity to gather without our screens, coming together for foraging hikes, communal cooking and chats around the campfire. There were many highlights, but one thing stood out: our cyanotype workshop with Karina. Cyanotype, one of the first photographic printing techniques, creates unique blue-colored prints. We searched diligently for the most beautiful grasses, flowers and fruits to create our cyanotypes, which we did on white shirts. There are technical reasons for why it works but we couldn’t help feeling there’s a bit of magic involved. If you want to find out, you can attend Karina’s next cyanotype workshop which takes place over two days in September 2023. You’ll learn when and how the first cyanotypes were created, how different artists adopted the process, and what can emerge from it. You’ll also get to know the materials and the coating of the paper.

Then, on the second day, you’ll make your own prints: Karina will provide everything you need but you can also bring your own materials. The beauty of this technique is that you can easily develop new compositions from home once you’ve got the hang of it. There’s no real magic, of course – but you’ll need some sunlight (or, on these particularly gray Berlin days, a little help from UV light).
